A direct flight from London to Hong Kong takes around 12 hours, indirect flights depend on the schedules involved but it’s reasonable to expect and indirect flight to take more like 14 hours. The trick is to get a good flight duration for both legs of the flight. One of the advantages for some UK residents is that taking an indirect flight may enable them to depart from a UK regional airport. Air France & KLM for example have around 15 UK departure airports and fly to Hong Kong via Paris, Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam respectively. In general it is not worth taking a flight with more than 1 stop. You are sometimes offered 2 stop flights but these are best left to aviation enthusiasts as once you have paid all the airport and departure taxes there isn’t anything to save compared with a direct flight or a 1 stop flight.
